What
Is Working Families' Friend?
Working
Families’ Friend is one of the most unique
community agencies ever devised. As the name
implies, the primary purpose of Working
Families’ Friend is to provide assistance,
training, and support to working families in
need. The symbol of the agency is one of
determination, hope, and struggle in the face of
challenge: the struggle that good, hard-working
families can face just to feed and clothe their
families.
America grew strong on the backs of the working
family. That same working family is threatened by
some of the today’s greatest challenges.
Now the working family has a friend it can turn
to in need.
What Programs Does Working
Families’ Friend
Offer?
Emergency Assistance
Working Families’ Friend can offer
emergency financial assistance to working
families who may be experiencing tough financial
times due to work shortages or layoffs. Typically
these requests come from counselors or other
community assistance agencies.
Community Counseling
The Community Counseling Program trains rank and
file workers to provide information to working
families in need and in referring them to
appropriate services in the community. Many times
just knowing where to turn for help can make a
significant difference for a family in need.
Board Leadership Program
Working Families’ Friend trains and helps
place workers on community and not-for-profit
boards in an effort to allow them to grow
individually and participate in community
decisions that impact working families.
Retirement
Services
Working Families’ Friend provides seminars
on services and resources available for
individuals who are either retired or are
planning retirement. Retired citizens have so
much yet to offer and are encouraged through this
program to participate in volunteer roles to help
working families.
Unemployment Services
Working Families’ Friend conducts seminars
focused on the needs of recently unemployed.
These seminars provide information on the
availability of resources, location of services,
and program eligibility requirements.
